Science

At Hereward Primary School, we value the importance of Science in everyday life. As well as following the National Curriculum, we strive to address pupils’ questions and interests to help build a love, passion and appreciation for the subject.

Our intention throughout the school is to develop natural curiosity within children and encourage respect for the world around them. We aim to support pupils in developing an understanding of the process and methods of Science by planning a range of scientific enquiries, investigations and questions; this will aid them to fully explore the world around them. We hope that pupils are equipped with the scientific knowledge and skills required to use science effectively today, tomorrow and in the future.

The national curriculum which was introduced into primary schools across the United Kingdom in September 2013 stated that for Science, it aimed to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.

Our aim at Hereward Primary School is to help children learn and develop these skills but to make it fun at the same time!
