Drop Everthing and Read

Finding time in the school day to read aloud to the children and enjoy the benefits of a wonderful book can be tricky. Schools are busy places. However, we feel that reading has a vast number of advantages and that children grow, learn and achieve more when immersed in an environment rich in literature. At three o'clock, each day, our teachers 'Drop Everything and Read' with their class. Alongside the pupils, teachers choose which texts they would like to read and for fifteen minutes a day are transformed into a differnt world of both fiction and non-fiction texs. This has proved very popular throughout the school and we feel that it has helped to introduce classes to new authors, new vocabulary and also helped to model the benefits and delights of reading.
