Mathematics

The 2014 National Curriculum for Maths aims to ensure that all children become fluent in the fundamentals of Mathematics; are able to reason mathematically; and can solve problems by applying what they have learned.

At Hereward Primary School, these skills are embedded within Maths lessons and are developed consistently over time. We are committed to ensuring that children are able to recognise the importance of Maths in the wider world and that they are able to use their mathematical skills and knowledge confidently in their lives in a range of different contexts.

We want all children to enjoy Mathematics and to experience success in the subject, with the ability to reason mathematically. We are committed to developing children’s curiosity about the subject, as well as an appreciation of the beauty and power of Mathematics.

The Mathematics Scheme in use at Hereward is called 'White Rose Maths' which is fully linked to the National Curriculum programmes of study.

Please download below a 'Parents' Calculation Handbook' which shows you exactly how we teach (and the children learn) written methods of calculation for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Just print it out and fold it together to make a great book to help you support your children at home, especially when they are doing homework.

Also, look for lots more information and resources below to help support your child's learning in Mathematics.
