Geography

At Hereward Primary School, it is our intention to inspire children with a love and curiosity about the world around them, its people within and the processes that contribute to the changing climate.

Through the teaching of Geography, it is our aim to:

  • Develop a child’s knowledge and understanding of local and globally significant places;
  • Enhance their awareness of human and physical characteristics and how they change over time;
  • Foster an enquiring mind, where the children will ask questions, and give them opportunities to explore the world to answer them;
  • Promote awareness and understanding of the world’s ethnic, cultural and economic diversity
  • Develop empathy for current events that are occurring.

The National Curriculum for Geography aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • develop knowledge of the location of globally significant places, including defining their physical and human characteristics;
  • understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world;
  • communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps and writing at length.
