At Hereward Primary School, it is our intention to inspire children with a love and curiosity about the world around them, its people within and the processes that contribute to the changing climate.
Through the teaching of Geography, it is our aim to:
- Develop a child’s knowledge and understanding of local and globally significant places;
- Enhance their awareness of human and physical characteristics and how they change over time;
- Foster an enquiring mind, where the children will ask questions, and give them opportunities to explore the world to answer them;
- Promote awareness and understanding of the world’s ethnic, cultural and economic diversity
- Develop empathy for current events that are occurring.
The National Curriculum for Geography aims to ensure that all pupils:
- develop knowledge of the location of globally significant places, including defining their physical and human characteristics;
- understand the processes that give rise to key physical and human geographical features of the world;
- communicate geographical information in a variety of ways, including through maps and writing at length.
