Earlier this term, year 5 enjoyed a World War 2 themed visit to The Royal Gunpowder Mills. This was a very hands-on experience of different aspects of life during the war, including an air-raid, complete with siren and simulated underground shelter. The children also learned about the role of women during the war and about rationing.
We explored what it would be like to be an evacuee from London to the country and the children were subjected to a fearsome Army Drill Sergeant, who put them through their paces! Not to mention a bit of detective work, where we had to use our skills to discover which of our guides for the day were in actual fact a German spy!
