On a visit to the Royal Gunpowder Hills in Waltham Abbey, the children in Year 4 'travelled back in time' to the Victorian era to experience what life was like as a Victorian child. The Year 4 pupils learnt all about how the Victorians spent their holidays, what toys children played with and even got their hands dirty in the workhouse washing clothes and cleaning shoes! The children were amazed at how hard and long Victorian children had to work for so little money.
The highlight of the trip was a visit to a Victorian classroom. The pupils practised writing with chalk on slate boards and some even experienced what it was like to have been punished for misbehaving!
Bria (4H) said, "I had so much fun learning about how Victorian children lived. It was so interesting to see what it was like back then, but I would not want to live in that era!"
