The Hereward cricket team had a fantastic and successful day at the Kwik-Cricket Festival held at Loughton C.C. They started the morning easily defeating Hillhouse and Theydon Bois which set up a final game to decide the group against St John Fisher. Hereward batted first and scored a highly respectable 260 against some very effective bowling. This was a good tally, but meant that Hereward needed to bowl and field at their full potential to win. After some fantastic bowling from the whole side, particularly from Oscar, Jeevan and Charlie, Hereward won by five runs.
Next up was a semi-final against Lambourne Primary. This was a very close encounter and despite taking a wicket in the final over of the match, Hereward missed a place in the final by only two runs! The team ended the day in fourth place overall out of 12 teams which was an excellent result.
Team Coach Mr Buckland said, "This was a great achievement by the team in the lovely sunshine. Well done to all of the children and hopefully this inspires the Year 6 pupils to continue with cricket after they leave Hereward."
The team consisted of: Jeevan (Captain), Oscar, Charlie, Teddy, Louis, Casey, Mason and Archie.
